Wonderful exhibition in a wonderful museum.
In 1924 in NY`s Great Central Palace an exhibition of Russian Art has been organized, which was transferred to USA from the Swedish city of MalmÖ, where in 1914 a Baltic exhibition took place with the same title. As a consequence of the WWI, Russian revolution and the Civil War diplomatic relations with Sweden were suspended and the works of Russian painters about ten years were not returned to the authors, some of whom appeared to be in emigration, others continued to live in USSR as Russia`s legal heir. Thanks to Russian painter Igor Grabar, in 1924 an exhibition of Russian Art was organized in USA, and the works of Russian painters were shipped from MalmÖ to NY. Duration of the exhibition was 20 days, it was divided after into two parts – northern and southern, and were traveled via different cities of USA and Canada until 1926. Saryan`s Arabic woman was purchased by NY collector Rosenzvaig.
Today in the Museum of Russian Impressionism the works of the same historic exhibition in NY are displayed. They were collected from different museums and private collections from all over the world, among them Sergiev Posad of Aristarkh Lentullov from National Gallery of Armenia and Arabiаn Dancer by Martiros Saryan from Martiros Saryan`s House-Museum. This museum dealing with tremendous scientific and collection work, a wonderful catalogue is published, to which significant means were invested by philanthropists and investors, Armenian branch of Cognac factory Ararat among them.
